More than two million dollars have been raised in a crowdfunding campaign which aims to help the family and the four children who find themselves orphans in a few hours.
Irma Garcia was a teacher who taught at the school in Uvalde, Texas.
“Irma was a wife, mother of four, cousin, sister, daughter, aunt and a wonderful person. She would have done anything for everyone no questions asked,” says her cousin Debra Austin on the crowdfunding campaign homepage.
Joe Garcia suffered a fatal heart attack two days following the tragedy that claimed the life of his lover of the past 25 years.
“I truly believe Joe died of a broken heart and losing the love of his life for over 25 years was just too much to bear,” Ms Austin said.
Quickly, the initial goal of $10,000 was exceeded.
By Sunday, more than 46,000 people had donated for a total of $2,593,860.
