The 20 km of Brussels seduce walkers, including Queen Mathilde

They are the pride of Carine Verstraeten, the conductor of the 20 Km of Brussels. Walkers, included in the event since the 2021 edition, were nearly 4,000 this Sunday. They perfectly embody this image of a sporting event for everyone that the 20 Km ardently defend.

Queen Mathilde herself, present for the second time in a row in wave 6 which is reserved for them, is certainly one of the convinced. Quietly, she joined the peloton shortly following 10 a.m.

Young or less young, sporty or less sporty, the profiles of these walkers are almost as numerous as their number. From their ranks emerges a renewed atmosphere of the 20 Km of Brussels. Here, the time has a very relative importance, far from the obsession of some at the head of the race. Some accompany a group around a good cause. Others are there just to visit Brussels differently while, for still others, it is a real sporting challenge to complete the course in less than 5 hours.

“We saw that the 20 Km of Brussels were open to walkers last September”confides Alexandra, from Leuze, for a group of ten people gathered around the nickname “Phoenix Your Mother” and accompanied within the bagpipes in their member. “Without this opportunity, we would probably never have started the 20 Km of Brussels. Just for the atmosphere, we are happy to be there. It’s fun to be involved with the runners and to see the capital differently.”
