On the 18th hole, following hearing the advice of my wife’s caddy, I was thrilled to win the 133th tournament for the first time.
(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Dong-chan Kim = Ji-ho Yang (33) enjoyed his first victory on the KPGA Korean Tour following 14 years of debut.
On the 29th, Ji-ho Yang played 1 eagle and 5 birdies in the 4th round of the KPGA Korean Tour KB Financial Live Championship (total prize of 700 million won) held at Blackstone Icheon Golf Club Northwest Course (par 72, 7,260 yards) in Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, on the 29th. He tied one to a 6-under-par 66.
With a final total of 7-under 281, Ji-ho Yang beat second-placed Seong-guk Park (34) by two strokes and became the protagonist of the championship prize of 140 million won.
Since her debut in 2008, Jiho Yang, whose previous best performance was 4th at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open earlier this month, climbed to the top for the first time in 14 years of debut. He is the winner of the 133rd in the number of competitions.
Park Eun-shin (32), who won the 12th Descente Korea Munsingwear Match Play last week, also won for the first time in 12 years since her debut on the Korean tour in 2010, and this week Ji-ho Yang unleashed her first victory in 14 years.
Yang Ji-ho won once in the Japanese second tour in 2012 and the second in the domestic tour in 2016, but this is his first win on the regular tour.
Ji-ho Yang, who was tied for 4th, two shots behind the lead until the third round, caught the Eagle with a shot from regarding 65 yards on the 5th hole (par 5).
Yang Ji-ho, who reduced four strokes on the 4th to 6th holes by tying a birdie to the front and back of the eagle, shared the lead with Park Seong-guk at the 7th hole until the 17th hole (par 4).
Park Seong-guk was the only player who took first place by one stroke until the third round.
However, Park Seong-guk, who played in the back group, barely reached the green with his fourth shot as his tee shot on the 17th hole was greatly skewed to the right.
Park Seong-guk, who might not even put a 3-meter bogey putt, lost two strokes on the hole, and in an instant, Yang Ji-ho took the lead by two strokes alone.
Yang Ji-ho, who took the safe strategy of raising the ball in three strokes on the last 18th hole, did not take advantage of the opportunity to putt the birdie regarding 5.5 meters, but he holed out with plenty of time while maintaining the lead by two strokes.
Park Seong-guk, who had to play an eagle on the last hole to go to overtime, went to the bunker around the green with his second shot, and the shot he hit for the eagle from the bunker stopped on the green, confirming Ji-ho Yang’s victory.
Ji-ho Yang, who married his wife Kim Yoo-jung in December 2020, took on the role of caddy and collaborated to win the championship, adding to the joy of winning.
In particular, Kim Yoo-jung suggested that when Yang Ji-ho tried to two-on with a wood ahead of the second shot on the 18th hole, he almost took the wood and played it safely with an iron.
In a broadcast interview following the game, Yang Ji-ho said, “Actually, I was going to plug it in with a wood, but my wife told me to play it safely as I used to, so I listened to my wife and changed clubs.”
Park Eun-shin, who was aiming for the championship for two weeks in a row, finished third with a 3-under-par 285.
