The good old Tupperware or similar is so practical that we do not think for a second that these plastic boxes might have disadvantages.
And yet, some foods do not mix well with plastic containers: rapid development of bacteria, food that spoils more quickly, taste that deteriorates… some mistakes can lead to poisoning! Here are five products that must be kept cool in a glass container
raw meat : do not store it in a plastic box, it will expire more quickly, leading to the proliferation of bacteria. Better to put it on a plate and cover it with cling film and anyway eat it very quickly.
Smoked salmon: he doesn’t like the plastic in food boxes at all: his smell will become much stronger and even his texture will change, he will become “soft”. For him, aluminum packaging is best. And we eat it very quickly too.
Raw vegetables will also become very soft in a tupperware (or similar) and the water released will make them lose their taste.
Cheese. There are plastic cheese boxes specially designed for soft or hard cheeses (with ventilation). But if you don’t have one, don’t replace it with a plastic box, it must breathe and not suffer from humidity. Just in case, you can put one or two sheets of paper towel at the bottom and a sprig of thyme to cut the smell, it may work for a few days.
Eggs. We know them, they can quickly turn into a nest of bacteria such as e.coli or salmonella, once cooked, keep them in their shells in the fridge and eat them quickly.
