Very bad news for Brad Marchand … and the Bruins

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand may not find himself in the hands of other National Hockey League teams at the start of the 2022-2023 season as he will need six months to recover from surgery.

The “Cubs” announced that the 34-year-old went under the knife on Friday to perform hip arthroscopy and labral repair of both hips. The Nova Scotian underwent surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City by Dr. Bryan Kelly. The latter had notably had a say in the operation of Montreal Canadiens goalkeeper Carey Price, in July 2021.

Marchand led the Bruins with 80 points in 70 games last season. He also managed his fifth campaign with more than 30 goals. He then added 11 points in seven playoff games, but Boston was eliminated in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes.

In career, the little plague has 795 points in 874 games. Marchand is still under contract until the end of the 2024-2025 season, at an average annual salary of $6.125 million.
