Books-Wael Tawfik:
The defamation case between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife, Amber Heard, reaches its final days, six weeks following the jury hears closing arguments.
The jury, made up of seven people, is expected to hear the case on Friday and must reach a unanimous decision for a verdict.
Johnny Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, has challenged a psychiatrist’s assessment that Amber Heard suffered from PTSD.
Referring to Depp’s expert psychologist, Vasquez said: “As I heard from Dr. Shannon Curry, Ms. Heard does not have PTSD, and she does not act like someone with PTSD.”
She also said Heard, 36, was not harmed by her Hollywood career following Adam Waldman, Depp’s attorney, claimed in a tabloid that her abuse story was a “hoax”.
Amber Heard’s lawyer told the jury that the verdict once morest his client would send a horrific message to victims of domestic violence. “The verdict once morest Amber sends a message that no matter what you do as a victim of abuse, you always have to do more,” he said.
Before handing the situation over to fellow colleague Elaine Breedhot, Rothenborn said: “This trial is more than just Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard. It’s regarding freedom of speech, protection, and a denial of Mr. Depp’s allegations once morest Amber.”
Amber Heard became visibly upset while her lawyer, Ben Rothenborn, made her closing statement. She seemed to be fighting back tears and trying to take deep breaths as her lawyer pointed out to the jury several cases in which she had allegedly been abused.
“Ladies and gentlemen, these words are a window into the heart and mind of America’s favorite pirate,” Ben Rottenborn, Amber Heard’s attorney, said of Johnny Depp’s vulgar text messages regarding her.
