One of the greatest virtues of Hollywood is its ability to evoke the past in a rigorous and precise way. Its directors and actors are capable of bringing characters like Marilyn Monroe or Albert Einstein back to life, figures who changed history in one way or another, with a great level of detail.
To do this, the actors who represent some of these historical figures come to submit to radical physical transformations that allow them to provide their character with all the necessary realism. The last actress to successfully portray a historical figure was Renée Zellweger. The American has parked ‘Bridget Jones’ to put herself in the shoes of Judy Garland in the biopic ‘Judy’, which will soon hit theaters. The award-winning artist proved in the trailer for the film directed by Rupert Goold that she was the one to play the role of Judy.
Garland’s career lasted 45 years and, although it was his first years of acting that brought him to fame, the film focuses on the twilight of his life, specifically in the year 1968. Garland was then dedicated to giving concerts in a legendary London nightclub.
Renée Zellweger not only manages to mimic her appearance but also emulates her voice in an extraordinary way. The actress had already participated in the musical ‘Chicago’ and, apparently, Goold convinced her to imprint her own character on Garland’s songs.
Although you’ll have to wait until September to see Zellweger in the shoes of Garland, you can visit this gallery to discover which actors perfectly emulated the historical characters they played.
