The construction of the Cabo Rojo Port begins

Yesterday, President Luis Abinader began the construction of works in the tourist project of Cabo Rojo, Pedernales, for some RD$7,000 million, within the strategy of the public-private alliance to develop the south of the country.

The works include the port of Cabo Rojo, which will be the fundamental axis of the development as it will begin to bring the first cruise passengers, and the hydro-sanitary infrastructures necessary for the anchorage and for the hotels contemplated.

This comprehensive project, which is part of the general master plan of the tourist destination, will generate jobs for the entire Enriquillo Region, made up of the provinces of Barahona, Pedernales, Independencia and Bahoruco.

Leading the opening ceremony for the construction of the “Port Cabo Rojo”, with a private investment of US$98 million, Abinader affirmed that it will make Pedernales the best-priced and most valued cruise destination in the entire Caribbean.

Likewise, the head of state started the works for the construction of the hydro-sanitary infrastructure works of the Pedernales Tourism Development Project in Cabo Rojo, which constitute the basis for building the hotels.

The works, with an estimated value of RD$1,185 million and an execution time of 18 months, consist of the construction of 9.2 kilometers of sanitary sewage, storm drainage, 8.3 kilometers of drinking water supply.

Also from the wastewater treatment plant, actions with which it is sought to create the fundamental conditions for the beginning of the construction of the first hotels in Cabo Rojo, Pedernales.

“Port Cabo Rojo”

The construction of the “Port Cabo Rojo”, which will be carried out with a loan from the Banco de Reservas, will have the capacity to receive up to one million cruise passengers per year and is part of the master development plan for this border province.

Port Cabo Rojo will operate under the administration of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), directed by Jean Luis Rodríguez, and ITM Group, managed by Mauricio Hamui.

It contemplates the generation of more than five thousand jobs, direct and indirect, which will allow renewing and boosting the economy of the southern region of the country.

The president assured that these investments will represent opportunities for more jobs, growth and better opportunities for the country.

With the work, he considered, they are not only building a port, but another reality, another future and another country.

The president indicated that his commitment to the Dominican people, to promote real and tangible change, with concrete projects and fulfilled promises, is undoubtedly the reason that moves him and his government in the task of managing this country day by day.

“A few days following arriving at the Government, I came to Pedernales on my first visit to a province. And I can guarantee you that every week, I dedicate several hours of work to this project because I am convinced that this great development is not just a hotel, or real estate, or cruise ship development like the first pierce that we are carrying out now,” he said.

Thousands of cruisers.

The cruise terminal will have four docking positions, a passenger reception center, a water park, an interactive area, a recreational area, sundecks, a shopping area, a spa, a main restaurant, a boutique hotel, a maintenance area and a beach area. It is estimated that it would receive thousands of tourists by sea.
