Ukraine described a Russian military offensive of “maximum intensity” and an extremely difficult situation in the Donbassin the east of its territory.
“The current offensive of the occupiers in the Donbass might make the region uninhabited”, asserted Volodymyr Zelensky in his televised address on the night of Thursday to Friday, accusing the Russian forces of seeking to “reduce to ashes” several towns in the region.
Supported by a deluge of bombs, the Russian army threatens Severodonetsk, a city of 100,000 inhabitants before the war, which might suffer the same fate as Mariupol, the southeastern port largely destroyed following weeks of siege.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of carrying out “genocide” in Donbass, in the east of the country.
