Further, the participants in the experiment were divided into several groups according to the degree of genetic risk of getting dementia. Among Europeans, the highest risk was found in 27.4 percent of participants, among Africans – 20.4 percent.
“By the end of the study, 1,603 Europeans and 631 Africans had developed dementia,” the researchers said. “The more they followed the ‘lifestyle factors’, the lower their risk of developing dementia dropped. In some cases, up to 30-43 percent.
