Starting June 30, changes previously announced on the App Store will go into effect. These new rules will in particular require developers to make it easier to delete an account or certain data stored on an application.
Last year, on the occasion of its WWDC 2021, Apple announced a broadside of measures intended for the applications of its App Store. Long postponed, these new rules will finally come into force: Apple will impose them from June 30th. These are intended to facilitate the task of the user if he wishes to delete an account or certain personal data stored on an application downloaded from the App Store.
For developers, the establishment of this new policy will therefore require making the options allowing these deletions more visible and accessible, Apple evoking solutions supposed to be “easy to find in apps“. Apps offering paid online group services will also be required to use Apple’s in-app payment system.
Some novelties adopted along the way by Apple
As pointed out The Verge, the changes soon to be imposed on online group services date from before WWDC 2021. They have been postponed three times: first in 2020 following complaints from Facebook, which ensured that these new rules would negatively impact the small businesses in times of Covid; then in the spring of 2021, this time to avoid accusations of monopoly in the midst of a hearing with the American Congress. Finally, Apple had planned their implementation in January 2022… before, once once more, postponing their entry into force to give more time to the developers concerned. Unless there is a new change, it seems that June 30 will be the final date for the entry into force of these new instructions.
As a reminder, WWDC 2022 will be held between June 6 and 10. By setting these changes to June 30, Apple is therefore ensuring that they will be implemented quickly following the end of its annual event dedicated to developers.
