Ethiopian Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reappointed as head of WHO

Ethiopian Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was reappointed on Tuesday at the 75th World Health Assembly for a second five-year term as head of the World Health Organization (WHO). Doctor Tedros, 57, was the only candidate to succeed himself for the post of director general of the WHO.

A specialist in malaria, a degree in immunology and a doctor in community health, Dr. Tedros was Minister of Health and head of diplomacy in his country. His face has been made familiar around the world by the fight once morest the Covid-19 pandemic which remains one of his main concerns.

After a first mandate marked by the Covid, which exposed the shortcomings of the WHO and the global health system, Dr Tedros will have to win the bet of strengthening the UN agency in particular to better prevent and manage future epidemics. .
