Fez-Meknes: 40 MDH for a multidisciplinary complex of the ESS

The council of the Fez-Meknes region unveils one of the first projects of the PDR 2022-2027. This is a multidisciplinary complex of social and solidarity economy (ESS) which will be carried out in Fez with a budget of 40 MDH.

The region of Fez-Meknes will soon have a new multidisciplinary complex of the Social and Solidarity Economy (ESS). This is what emerges from the last meeting on the development of the PDR 2022-2027, organized by the Regional Council in Fez.

This new project will be carried out with a budget of 40 MDH, including 32 MDH provided by the Council of the Fez-Meknes region and 8 MDH by the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and SSE. Spread over an area of ​​3,810 m², this complex, which will be located in Hay El Massira, will have a 640 m² training room, an exhibition space (524 m²), a conference room (400 m²), a warehouse and logistics offices (748 m²), a digital and ICT space (185 m²), as well as a crèche/canteen (300 m²).

The contracting authority in charge of the project is the Regional Project Execution Agency (AREP) Fez-Meknes. The 5,375 cooperatives in the region have a self-employed workforce of more than 32,000 people, noting that 20% of national turnover is generated by the Fez-Meknes region. The ESS constitutes 36% of the capital of the cooperatives of the crafts sector at the level of the region.

Given the role played by associations and cooperatives in organizing the productive capacities of society and managing its economic activities to open up new horizons and contribute to the creation of jobs, the cooperative sector constitutes an strategic as a buoyant sector and a dynamic field which plays a very important role in the economy of the region, in particular in the craft industry linked to the known fields.

Art, decoration, dyeing, cooking and desserts, textiles, leather, metal, carpentry, wood. This has been reinforced by the programming of structured projects aimed at promoting this sector, including the Multidisciplinary Complex of the ESS.

The Fez-Meknes region has witnessed many initiatives aimed at strengthening the role of the social economy and solidarity as a lever for development in the region, as evidenced by the active participation and continuous monitoring of all actors. and partners to support self-employment and promote product promotion and competitiveness through national and regional exhibitions and events.

In terms of provincial spatial dynamics, we see that the two provinces, Taza and Boulemane, bring together nearly 42.3% of the cooperatives in the region, with shares of 22.1% and 20.2% respectively. They are followed by provinces whose proportions are higher than 10%, such as Taounate (14.4%), Meknes (11%) and Sefrou (10.4%).

Moreover, only 6.7% of the cooperatives in the region are active in the prefecture of Fez once morest 6.3% in Ifrane, 4.9% in Moulay Yacoub and 4% in El Hajeb. From the point of view of membership numbers, the province of Taza has 16.4% of the total regional membership.

It is followed by the provinces of Meknes with 16.1%, Boulemane (13.6%), Taounate (12.7%) and Fez (11.1%). Thus, approximately 70% of cooperative members in the Fez-Meknes region are concentrated in these five provinces.
