According to the German Center for Disease Control and Prevention (RKI), five cases of monkey pox infection were reported in Germany as of this morning. All the infected were male. RKI predicted that the number of infections in Germany would further spread.
German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said: “We have a good opportunity to stop this etiology, not only in Germany, but throughout Europe. ),” he said.
Health officials have recommended that all those who have been confirmed with monkey pox or have been in close contact with them should self-isolate for at least 21 days.

“It is clear that the number of infections will spread further,” said RKI Director Rota Beiller. “Our goal is to slow the spread.”
He predicts that this will be possible through contact tracing, prevention of close contact with infected people, and hygiene measures. In particular, he explains, caution should be exercised in the case of risk groups.
When infected with monkeypox, initial symptoms similar to smallpox appear, such as fever, headache, muscle pain, lymphadenitis, and fatigue.
Most monkeys with smallpox recover within a few weeks, but some patients can become severe, Biller said. Person-to-person transmission of the etiology is not easy if there is no close contact, he explains.
Although the virus can be transmitted regardless of sexual orientation, gender or age, it is unlikely to threaten the health of the entire population.

In Slovenia, the first confirmed case was a person returning from a trip to the Canary Islands in Spain.
