Opting for a heat pump, is it always a good idea?

In short, thanks to the bonuses, you can expect to install a heat pump for 5000 euros. That’s for investment. It remains to be seen what it can bring you. To find out, we made an appointment with a specialist in the field: he works for Test-Achats and he is studying whether it is worth investing in an alternative heating method.

The first thing to do is not to replace your heating system, but to drastically reduce energy needs.

Philippe Mercier is an expert in energy consumption. For him, despite the current premiums, investing only in a heat pump can be a bad calculation: “The first thing to do is not to replace your heating system, but to drastically reduce the needs. This involves insulating the facades, roofs and floors. If you want to obtain the same reduction in consumption energy, we will have to spend between two to four times less if we place it in the insulation, compared to changing our boiler or our heating system.

And that’s not all. In some cases, the risk is even to pay more expensive bills with a heat pump. Because these pumps run on electricity, and the price of electricity has also risen sharply.
