‘Oldest MC’ Song Hae, 96, finalized on Guinness Book of Records

Broadcaster Song Hae was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as ‘the oldest TV music contest host’.

On the 23rd, KBS announced, “Songhae, the host and broadcaster of ‘KBS 1TV’s ‘National Singing Contest’, has been registered in the Guinness World Records.”

Song Hae, who has been active as the MC of the nation’s longest-running TV music program, ‘National Singing Contest’, has been listed in the Guinness World Records, confirming that it is the best record not only in Korea but also in the world.

The registered category name is ‘Oldest TV music talent show host’. KBS and Songhae submitted a request for a record challenge to the Guinness World Records and submitted related materials, and the Guinness World Record listing was finally confirmed following careful review by a professional jury of Guinness and requests for supplementation.

The actual confirmed date was the end of April, but the public announcement was delayed somewhat due to work delays due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) situation and Song Hae’s own health problems.

Regarding the Guinness Book of Records listing, Song Hae said through KBS, “Thanks to the Korean viewers who have saved the National Singing Pride for a long time.”

Meanwhile, Song Hae was born in 1927 and turned 96 this year in Korean age. He made his debut through the Changgong Music Troupe in 1955, and since 1988, has served as the MC of the National Singing Pride, and has been broadcasting the ‘National Singing Pride’ for 34 years.
