Bad Mergentheim. Chief Physician Dr. Jochen Selbach provides information regarding the treatment of circulatory disorders in the pelvic and leg arteries. With circulatory disorders in the pelvic and leg arteries, the patient often has to stand still because the legs hurt, as if he wanted to look at the shop windows while strolling through the city. Hence the name “window sickness”. As harmless as the name sounds, the disease can lead to the death of tissue on the feet, and in the final stages there is even a risk of amputation.

In his online lecture “Intermittent claudication – prevention and treatment” on Thursday, June 2nd at 6 p.m., Dr. Jochen Selbach, head of the vascular center at the Caritas hospital, the causes and treatment options for the disease. He also shows how to prevent circulatory disorders.
Due to the aging of society, more and more people in Germany are affected by vascular diseases. The cause of circulatory disorders in the pelvic and leg arteries is usually hardening of the arteries (arteriosclerosis). “In an early stage of the disease, conservative therapy is the focus, with the aim of reducing risk factors such as diabetes and obesity. These include blood-thinning medication and exercise therapy,” says Dr. Selbach. “In the case of more advanced diseases, it is often possible today to eliminate the vascular occlusion through gentle, minimally invasive measures such as interventional vasodilatation. In individual cases, surgical therapy, such as a bypass system, is also necessary.”
