Rwanda said on Monday that it had asked a regional body to investigate the shelling by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on its territory, which resulted in the injury of several people and damage to property.
This alleged incident may exacerbate tension in relations between the two countries, which have long accused each other of supporting armed groups.
Congolese authorities might not be reached for comment.
The Rwandan Ministry of Defense said in a statement that it had asked the Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism to investigate the attack on its territory. This mechanism is a group of military experts from the region who monitor and investigate security incidents.
The ministry added that the attack targeted the Musanze district in northern Rwanda, injuring “several civilians and causing damage to property”.
