“The Squid Game” star Lee Jong Jae shows off his technical muscles in a movie he wrote, directed, produced and also starred in, which revolves around an exciting spy story.
The Hunt will be shown for the first time during the Cannes Film Festival in the out-of-competition film section.
The events of the film are fast and full of excitement, as it revolves around two South Korean intelligence men tasked with exposing a North Korean intelligence member, and the two parties end up exchanging an investigation together.
Lee, 49, stars as one of the two spies opposite his old friend and business partner Jung Woo Sung.
He said that his career, which lasted nearly 3 decades, was of great help to him when he took the directing step.
“I’ve acted in many different kinds of films, and I can remember the scenes that I shot as an actor and they were hard to film or didn’t turn out as I expected,” he told Archyde.com in Cannes.
He continued, “I tried to remember those scenes when I was writing the script to make sure I might be able (to execute) them as much as possible when directing.”
Lee said, “I am so grateful that I made my directorial debut during this renaissance of Korean culture.”
“I hope to meet international fans and fans in other films,” he added.
When asked regarding what he liked regarding this movie in particular, in which he wrote, produced, directed and acted, Lee did not hesitate to respond by saying, “Of course acting. I’m an actor. It’s my identity. So, I liked acting more.”
