The best images of the Milky Way of 2022 are revealed: Two Chileans are selected | Technology

The list of 25 best photographs of the year seeks to show the finalists for who will be the next Milky Way photographer of the year.

This week the magazine National Geographic España shared the best images of the Milky Way of 2022 chosen by the photography and travel blog Capture the Atlas. The images forms part of its annual collection “Milky Way Photographer of the Year”that is, in Spanish, “the photographer of the Milky Way of the year”, thus showing the 25 best photographs, where Two Chileans appear.

These images are shared for the purpose of inspire and share the beauty of the galaxy we inhabit and from where different astrophotographers shared their records from different parts of the globe such as Spain, Argentina, France, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Egypt, Slovenia, Slovakia, as well as Chile.

The Chileans present on the list are alexis wheatwho photographed the starry sky from San Pedro de Atacama, as well as Cari Letelierwho had his photograph in the same sector.

“Very excited and happy, I tell you that my photo was selected among the best of the Milky Way 2022 in the annual list of Capture the Atlas, which seeks to inspire many more people to look up, be fascinated by our night skies and capture them to share with the world”, wrote Letelier from his Instagram account celebrating the good news. ⁣

In her image, called “Framing Atacama’s Hidden Nightscapes”, the astrophotographer assured that “we plan with maps and meteorological data to try to find that long-awaited scenario, which is sometimes so difficult to find. Occasionally, however, those perfect compositions just appear in front of you”.

“When our expedition was ending, this was the last stop, and the unplanned moment with the galactic center in the middle of the cave frame was just a dream. However, capturing this image was not easy, as I had to climb up one side of the cave and light the scene very carefully with my headlamp. This was a memorable night,” she recounted.

On the other hand, Alexis Trigo stood out for his image “The Salt Road”, where he wrote: “When you visit the Atacama Desert, with its arid formations and starry sky, you feel like you are on another planet.”

“This place is the thousand-year-old salt mountain range where an unbreakable silence reigns, ideal for introspection and contemplation of the sky. One of my favorite features of this place is the extensive layer of salt on the ground that reflects and enhances the low light, which comes mainly from the zodiacal light and translates into less noise in the photograph, ”he added.

Finally, the astrophotographer assured that discovered “this corner one followingnoon while cycling looking for a unique panorama, and I’m so glad I found it!”

In his social networks, the Chilean celebrated his achievement, assuring that it is “an honor to have a record of the Atacama Desert together with such great exponents on the list”.
