Meet Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education

With the blessing of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and following consulting with him, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, announced a new major restructuring of the education system in the country The Emirates, and directed a comprehensive review of the systems, legislation and policies of the educational sector, and the establishment of a number of institutions supporting the development of the sector and the future of education in the country.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: Brothers and sisters, with the blessing of my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, and following consulting with him, we announce today a structural change in the education sector in the country as follows: We announce the appointment of Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi as Minister We directed him to review all policies and legislation of the education system in the country.

Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi held the position of Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises following the ministerial formation of the UAE government in July 2020, and he has been a member of the Education and Human Resources Council since its formation in 2016. Develop solutions and projects, discuss legislation and laws regulating the education sector in the country, and align them with the labor market. And developing strategic plans and future directions for higher and public education institutions in the country.

Al Falasi also previously held the position of Minister of State for Higher Education Affairs, where he oversaw the development of higher education and scientific research in the UAE, in addition to setting policies for the sector, organizing the work of its institutions, ensuring the quality of its outputs and aligning them with the requirements of the labor market.

According to the ministerial reshuffle of the UAE government in October 2017, the advanced skills file was added to his ministerial portfolio, with the responsibility of equipping local cadres with future skills. He has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence since October 2019.

Al Falasi also held the position of Chairman of the Federal Authority for Human Resources, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Space Agency, and represented the space sector in the National Committee for Science, Technology and Innovation.

During his career, Al Falasi served as CEO of Masdar Company, Executive Director of Strategy and Tourism Development at the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in Dubai, in addition to the position of Vice President in the Mubadala Industry Unit. He also worked as a consultant for the management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

He holds a Ph.D. from Monash University and a Master’s degree from the University of Melbourne in Australia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications Engineering from Khalifa University of Science and Technology in the United Arab Emirates.
