(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Park Eui-rae = US President Joe Biden, who is visiting South Korea, has signed a $40 billion (regarding 51.2 trillion won) budget bill to support Ukraine, the Associated Press reported on the 21st.

The law provides for $20.1 billion in military aid to Ukraine, $8 billion in economic aid, and $5 billion in economic assistance to Ukraine. It consisted of a modest food aid budget.

The House of Representatives passed the bill to the Senate with bipartisan support on the 10th, but the bill was delayed because some Republicans in the Senate objected to expedited deliberation.

In the end, the Senate passed the bill on the 19th, but it was following President Biden got on a plane to South Korea.

Because of this, a U.S. government official took the bill to Seoul on a civilian plane, and President Biden was able to sign the bill during his visit to South Korea, a White House official said.

The Associated Press explained that it is rare for a US president to sign a bill while traveling abroad, reflecting the sense of urgency for aid to Ukraine.

Since the invasion of Russia, the total amount of US aid to Ukraine has exceeded 50 billion dollars (63.9 trillion won).
