Juri Vips, a junior driver of Red Bull Racing, replaced Sergio Perez in the first free run of the 2022 F1 Round 6 Spanish Grand Prix.
This year, F1 requires at least two free practices to carry a “rookie” driver. Red Bull Racing chose the Catalunya circuit, which even junior drivers have a wealth of driving experience, as an opportunity to carry junior driver Juri Vips.
Yuri Vips, who is also in charge of the team’s simulator work, ran 23 laps mainly on aero mapping. He recalled that it was a useful task.
“Today’s experience was great. It’s an incredible moment just to drive on the Grand Prix weekend,” commented Juri Vips.
“When it was first announced, I kept thinking regarding when I first started the cart, it was just a hobby, but now I’m in the car.”
“It was a busy session. I did a lot of aero mapping and never planned to do push laps. It was a very busy session and I found out why F1 is so hard!”
“As a junior driver who can learn a lot of driving and accompany the team and the race, it is not only beneficial for me to not only hear the driver’s feedback but also to get a direct feel of the car, but I do it in the simulator. It is also useful for the work you are doing. “
