Morocco has a set of mechanisms capable of renewing and consolidating the national wheat stock, at a time when the prices of this commodity are rising on the world markets due to the situation marked by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, said, Thursday in Rabat, the minister delegate in charge of relations with parliament, government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas.
The government is making a great effort to guarantee the abundance of wheat and in particular the soft wheat which is used in the manufacture of flour, underlined Mr. Baitas who was speaking during a press briefing at the end of the meeting. of the Governing Council.
The government subsidy for this vital commodity so that it reaches the flour mills at the price of 260 dh per quintal has seen a sharp increase, he said, adding that it went from 71 dh last January to nearly 200 dh per quintal currently.
Baitas assured that the government will continue to subsidize this essential commodity in the national diet to support the purchasing power of the citizens, despite the high cost due to the current international conjuncture.
Morocco gets its supplies of this commodity from different markets, the minister said, noting that the national wheat stock covers almost four months of consumption.
