Podor, May 19 (APS) – A government delegation led by the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, on Wednesday conveyed President Macky Sall’s condolences to the families of the victims of the fire that occurred Tuesday in Doumnga-Lao, in the department of Podor (north).
Three people lost their lives on Tuesday in this fire that started from a hut in Boguéré, before turning into a bush fire which then spread to other villages such as Yaré-Lao, Ndokmaami, Athie Baali or Koré , as far as the communes of Dodel and Médina Ndiathbé.
One of the people evacuated to Ndioum hospital for treatment for burns passed away on Wednesday, bringing to 4 the number of deaths recorded following this tragedy.
The government delegation comprising Ministers Samba Ndiobène Kâ (Community Development, Social and Territorial Equity) and Aly Saleh Diop (Livestock and Animal Production) went to Ndioum hospital to inquire regarding the condition of the people there. were admitted.
She attended the burial of the deceased in Kawel, a locality located 15 km northwest of Boguéré.
After the prayers and the presentation of condolences, the governor of the Saint-Louis region, Alioune Badara Sambe, on behalf of the President of the Republic announced that the State has decided to come to the aid of the victims by granting “5 million to families”.
Added to this are “10 million to support the populations of the area”, not to mention support in kind consisting of “20 tons of rice, packets of zinc, cement, iron and wood”, as well as “10 tons of cattle feed,” the governor said.
The governor also reported the establishment of a commission responsible for the distribution of this support, which will be chaired by the prefect of Podor, with the mayors, representatives of the livestock service and the gendarmerie as members.
