Red Bull F1 reports that RB18 will be 7kg lighter at the Spanish Grand Prix[F1-Gate .com]

Red Bull Racing will reduce the weight of the RB18 by 7kg with an update to the 2020 F1 Round 6 Spain Grand Prix, said Paolo Philisetti, technical analyst at RacingNews365.com.

So far in the 2022 season, Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari have dominated the field, with Max Verstappen sharing three wins and Charles Leclerc two wins.

In Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen won the Emilia Romagna GP at Imola, which was 4kg lighter. He also won the Miami Grand Prix, closing the gap with Charles Leclerc to 19 points.

According to Paolo Filisetti, a technical analyst at RacingNews365.com, the RB18 will be further reduced by 7kg over the weekend of the Spanish Grand Prix as aerodynamics change.

Christian Horner, head of the F1 team at Red Bull Racing, explained that weight reduction is a priority for the RB18 as it seeks a consistent “incremental gain” to catch up with Ferrari. He suggested that more development was underway over the busy summer period of the race, despite tight budget caps.

“I saw how fast things move in Imola. I think there will be some interesting races coming up,” Christian Horner told Sky Sports F1.

“The car is running well. There will be some development in the second half of the summer because we need to save a little more weight.”

Christian Horner added that Red Bull Racing is on a “good track” but wants to make progress in “all areas” at upcoming events.

“We need to improve slow corners. We need to scrape a few kilograms off the car. Tire degration is a result of weight,” said Christian Horner.

“It’s always the benefit of all these small gains that we’re chasing.”

Although Red Bull Racing has the upper hand at excellent linear speeds, Christian Horner was asked if Scuderia Ferrari might be tempted to trim the downforce accordingly.

Christian Corner describes this situation as a “philosophical” situation and expects lead battles to come and go depending on the characteristics of the circuit.

“We entered this year’s campaign with that (straight line speed) in mind. I think Ferrari designed the car to be optimized in another area,” said Christian Horner.

“I think it’s going from circuit to circuit. Perhaps in Monaco, they have a big advantage.”

“There will be that kind of truck, so we need to make sure it’s versatile.”
