The President Ivan Duque pronounced this Tuesday on the announcement of the United States to relax some sanctions imposed on Venezuela, with the aim of promoting dialogue between the regime of Nicolás Maduro and the opposition.
The Colombian president assured that the return of the dialogues between the ruling party and the Venezuelan opposition, which have been advanced in Mexico, represents a “triumph of the Venezuelan democratic resistance and, in addition, it is a triumph of the diplomatic siege.”
In this sense, the Colombian president assured that Maduro did not achieve his goal of freeing Alex Saab –accused of being his figurehead–, even though he made the Joe Biden administration will make the economic sanctions imposed.
“Maduro had said that he would not sit down once more until Saab was released, and he was not released; he is extradited and will remain on trial. In addition, Duque assured that the willingness of his Venezuelan counterpart to dialogue with the opposition represents a win for the united states since, according to him, Maduro is giving in to the need to recover the economy of his country.
