Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was allegedly the victim of an armed robbery on Monday evening in Etobicoke, a suburb of Toronto.

At least that’s what reporter Joe Warmington of the daily Toronto Sun.

“It happened at the Cineplex theater located on Queensway Avenue,” a police source reportedly confirmed.

The Toronto Police Department received a call for an armed robbery at 7:46 p.m.

Thus, three men armed with pistols and a knife would have left aboard a black Range Rover, and it would have been learned later that it belonged to Marner.

“The suspects approached wearing masks, and said they wanted to leave with the vehicle. Marner reportedly replied “Go ahead, take it” to his attackers.

The police source told the Toronto Sun that although weapons were used, they were not aimed directly at Marner and the friend who was with him.

“The suspects did not appear to know that the owner of the car was Marner,” the source said. They were only interested in the Range Rover, and in all likelihood reselling it outside the country. »

The incident occurred just under 48 hours following the Tampa Bay Lightning eliminated the Maple Leafs in seven games in the first round of the NHL playoffs.
