The Chinese brand HiSense plans to release the A9, an e-ink screen smartphone, this year.
This is not a first. A few years ago, a Russian company marketed a smartphone with an e-ink screen, a technology long adopted by e-reader manufacturers. These “electronic ink” screens certainly do not display colors, and are certainly slow to refresh, but they have unique advantages. In particular, the fact of offering unequaled reading comfort. Their energy-efficient screen also allows them to be used for long periods of time without having to recharge them…
The Chinese brand HiSense has obviously seen an opportunity since it has chosen to create a single-screen smartphone using this technology. No question here of watching videos, movies or playing games. The A9 smartphone will not allow you to launch most multimedia apps anyway. The Chinese manufacturer has chosen to focus its efforts on productivity. The user can take advantage of the e-ink screen to read ebooks, check emails, surf the web, send SMS or read PDF documents without damaging their eyes…
With its large 6.1″ screen, the A9 smartphone might well find its audience. The Chinese brand is entering a niche market… but the reception on social networks has so far been very positive. It should be noted, however, that if the device has a certain interest, its technical sheet does not necessarily make you dream. No 5G on the program, an outdated version of Android (Android 11), and limited power (4 GB of RAM and a Sanpdragon 662 processor). It will probably be very difficult to seduce geeks with such a configuration!
Unfortunately, the device will only be available for sale in China. At a price of 1779 yuan, or regarding 250 euros.
