Russia will leave the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference. The decision of the deputies was announced by the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, he is quoted by the press service of the chamber on its official site on Monday, May 16th.
“Responsibility for breaking parliamentary ties lies with those who undermine the basic principles of the Conference and use it to attack Russia. The activities of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference have always been built on an equal basis, and decisions were made by consensus. However, the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference stopped real cooperation, and the participating countries forgot regarding the interests of their own citizens,” Volodin said.
Permanent members of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference are the parliaments of Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Estonia.
“Today there is no dialogue with the parliamentarians of most of these countries either in the format of this organization or through inter-parliamentary channels,” the State Duma speaker explained.
