More Japanese role-playing games on Xbox? Atlus poll questions the public | Xbox One

The relationship between Xbox and the Asian public, especially Japanese, was never a long calm river, far from it, and this was reflected in particular by difficulties in obtaining licenses of classic J-RPGs on Xbox. Nevertheless, the situation has improved and, for example, we were able to see last February the formalization of the release of Soul Hackers 2 on Xbox. Publisher Atlus has just released a new survey that reveals a rather positive trend for gamers and creators.

More attention paid to Western audiences than before?

Each year, the publisher Atlus publishes a survey for its fans and its community in order to receive opinions and concrete comments on their desires. Atlus is known for franchises such as Persona or Shin Megami Tensei which have rarely been released on Xbox. The survey was also published in North America and the results regarding a specific question are more than interesting.

Indeed, it is question 38 that has captured all the attention of Atlus and the media since it concerns the Persona franchise. On Xbox, only the spin-off Person 4 Sand et Catherine have already been released while the new Soul Hackers 2 is the next Atlus game coming to Microsoft’s console on August 26th. Question 38 of this survey therefore asks on which platforms fans would like to play Persona, for example on consumer consoles (including an option “I would like to play on Xbox”), but also smartphones, VR and many others. .

This shows a certain questioning on the part of Atlus as to the release of more colossal projects than usual on Xbox. These J-RPG franchises have rocked many players and this often exceeds the barriers imposed by platforms and manufacturers. The enthusiasm aroused by the announcement of the arrival of Souls Hackers 2 on Xbox next August bears witness to this very well.

Of course, this does not guarantee the arrival of major Atlus franchises on Xbox soon, but if Xbox continues its rapprochement and its privileged actions with the Japanese public and that the Japanese studios do the same with Western players, new bridges can be considered.
