1.8 per mille: ÖVP mayor fell heavily with an e-scooter

Wolfgang Greil, the mayor of Katsdorf, was on his way home from a local festival and, according to an alcohol test, drunk when the accident happened. Greil had to have an operation on his face. He was reported.

The mayor of Katsdorf (Perg district), Wolfgang Greil (ÖVP), fell from the e-scooter in the early hours of Sunday morning on his way home from his community’s spring festival with a blood alcohol level of 1.82. A speed bump was fatal to the mayor, who is also the managing director of the Upper Austrian Economic Association. Greil injured his eye so badly that he underwent surgery, the “Krone” reported on Monday. Greil was reported, the alcohol limit for e-scooters is 0.8, as with bicycles, according to the police. According to “Krone”, Greil has also lost his driver’s license.

In the run-up, the ÖVP mayor had announced his anticipation of the “Katsdorf Wine Spring”. “After two years of hardship, we want to come together once more this year at the Katsdorf village square, enjoy wine and delicacies – and above all celebrate the sociable togetherness,” the mayor announced. The festival opened at 3 p.m., Greil’s fall happened around 3 a.m. “I’m terribly sorry for yesterday’s incident and it was a big mistake that I got on the scooter. I sincerely apologize to everyone I disappointed with my behavior,” Greil said in writing on Monday.

The state ÖVP was not very happy regarding the incident. “I know Wolfgang Greil as a serious and responsible politician. Something like this shouldn’t happen and it will be discussed with him accordingly,” ruled ÖVP state manager Florian Hiegelsberger.
