Football development cannot be separated from socio-economic growth, says Patrice Motsepe

Dakar, May 15 (APS) – The development of African football cannot be dissociated from the socio-economic growth of the continent, said the president of the African Football Confederation, Patrice Motsepe on the occasion of the general assembly of COSAFA (the Southern African Development Zone).

“We cannot separate the development of football from the growth and socio-economic development of every country in Africa,” said the South African businessman whose remarks were reported on the official website of the CAF.

For the CAF president, the African continent has arrived at “a moment in our history where we are capable of doing great things for African football and for our Nations”.

”We must leave this meeting with a sense of urgency, to make COSAFA football one of the best in Africa, we are part of the generation that will forever change the face and future of football” , said the South African businessman, owner of Mamelodi Sundowns, winner of the African Champions League in 2016.

“We are here to talk regarding how we work together, how we grow together and how we create more opportunities for football infrastructure at school, amateur and professional level,” he said calling for a ”unit” of COSAFA and the African football family.
