She was absent from Parliament and attended … an event that “Elizabeth” has been doing for 79 years (photos)

On Sunday, Queen Elizabeth II attended the closing of a four-day horse show to celebrate the 70th anniversary of her accession to the British throne.

The event attracted actors including Hollywood star Tom Cruise and British actress Helen Mirren.

The 96-year-old Queen’s Range Rover took her to an outdoor area in the grounds of Windsor Castle, where she was greeted by two RCMP officers who helped her get out of the car to cheers from the crowd.

Singers, including Gregory Porter, performed during the show.

Before the show, Cruz said, “She’s a woman that I just admire so much… I think she’s a person of immense dignity and I admire her sincerity. What she’s accomplished has been historic.”

The Queen has attended all of Windsor’s horse shows since it began 79 years ago, reflecting her keen interest in horse racing and breeding. In a photo marking her 96th birthday in April, the Queen appeared with two young ponies.

The Queen has only appeared in public on a handful of occasions since she spent a night in hospital last October with an unspecified illness, following which doctors asked her to rest.

Since then, she has been carrying out her duties either remotely or in person at her Windsor Castle residence. She did not attend the opening of Parliament last week.
