On Teacher’s Day, SEP announces salary increase for ‘teachers’

In order to recognize the work of teachers, the Secretary of Public Education (SEP), Delfina Gómez Álvarez, announced the Salary increase plan for teaching staff.

From the Secretariat’s facilities, the federal official reported that thanks to the federal government’s austerity policy there will be a staggered salary increase for teachers who earn less than 20,000 pesos per month.

An increase is coming for our teachers, an important and very essential one that is the product of a great effort made by the government, of a process of austerity and savings,” he commented.

He explained that the salary increase will be staggered by 3, 2 and 1 percent for those who report income of less than 20 thousand pesos.

He added that will benefit with the highest percentage those who receive less income, so they will thus reach an approximate salary of 14 thousand 300 pesos per month.

He argued that workers who have resources of less than 20 thousand pesos will see the reflection of an increase of 7.5 percent.

Thus, the Government of the Republic ratifies its commitment to teachers for their well-being and safety; a fair recognition of the effort, dedication and commitment in favor of education in our country”, said Gómez Álvarez.

Gómez Álvarez thanked President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for prioritizing the education sector and making all the necessary efforts to address the historical wage debt of teachers in Mexico.

In addition, he highlighted that during the covid-19 pandemic teachers and educational personnel were prioritized in the National Vaccination Plan with the aim of promoting their health in order to continue with education.

According to the SEP, the federal government will make an investment of 25 million pesos to strengthen the salary of teachers.

Without education, there is no transformation”, stated the head of the SEP prior to the awarding of the Maestro Ignacio Manuel Altamirano award and the awarding of the Rafael Ramírez Medal.
