Azpilicueta sad after losing to Liverpool

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta said two successive defeats on penalties once morest Liverpool were hard to accept following Jurgen Klopp’s team beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Chelsea lost to Liverpool in the League Cup final last February and in the FA Cup final yesterday they also lost 6-5 following Azpilicueta and Mason Mount missed two penalty kicks, while substitute Costas Tsimikas scored the decisive penalty kick for Liverpool.

“When the penalty shootout was used to decide the result, we tried to give our best and we were ready for that, but unfortunately this did not happen once more,” Azpilicueta told Chelsea’s website.

He continued, “I missed my kick too, so it’s not just Mason, we are one team. This is football, indeed it hurts sometimes, but we are the first to feel the pain.”

And before the last two rounds of the season, Chelsea occupies third place among the English Premier League teams, and they faced a difficult season due to the sanctions imposed by the British government on him and his Russian owner Roman Abramovich following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 last.

Azpilicueta indicated that his team still has a chance to achieve some positive results if it finishes the season in a strong way at the level of the Premier League.

Azpilicueta added: “We have won two titles this season, the Club World Cup and the Super Cup, which is something to appreciate. But of course losing here twice is disappointing, now we have two games and six points to finish third (in the league)”.
