Checks with a sonar were carried out during the day to try to locate the young girl, in vain.

The search was then suspended around 9 p.m. and should resume Sunday morning, according to the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Stéphane Tremblay.

A patrol vehicle is expected to remain in the area for much of the night from Saturday to Sunday.

The edge of the river where the tragedy occurred has become a place of meditation for the people of the region. Flowers and letters in honor of the young girl were left.

The mayor of Sainte-Adèle, Michèle Lalonde, admitted to being on the alert since Thursday.

“Every time I get a text, my heart skips a beat, wondering what news I’m going to hear,” she said.

She said she was moved by the generosity of citizens who offered to come and volunteer in the hope of finding the young girl. Unfortunately, given the high level of the river, it can be dangerous for inexperienced people to venture too close.
