Epic Games: Unreal Editor for Fortnite is scheduled for release this year

Publisher Epic Games wants to allow Fortnite players to create their own game content later this year. For this purpose, the existing Unreal Editor is to be adapted to the game. Currently, own content can only be added to the game via detours.

Although Fortnite is already one of the most successful games of all time, Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney sees a lot of room for improvement. The developer studio recently released the latest version of the Unreal Engine. The software comes with tools to create detailed environments and game content. Unreal Engine 5 is available for download along with the editor. However, the tools are not designed for normal players, but rather for experienced developers.

Developers already have the opportunity to edit and expand Fortnite. However, this requires a lot of technical background knowledge. That’s why Epic Games is planning to release a special Fortnite version of the already existing Unreal Editor. That’s what Tim Sweeney has to say regarding it Fast Company approved. The editor might be included with the game or installed with a click. The program should take over all the features of the already available version. It remains open to what extent the software will be simplified so that users with little experience can design their own game content.

Developers can market their game content

In addition to the editor itself, Epic Games wants to create an ecosystem through which creators can market their content. The Roblox platform should serve as a model. At the moment, however, it is still unclear when the editor and the platform will see the light of day. However, the Unreal Editor for Fortnite should be released by the end of 2022 at the latest.
