This weekend takes place the Quebec Electric Vehicle Show, an event that will allow the curious to learn regarding alternatives to gasoline.
The price of gasoline, which exceeded $2, encouraged many Quebecers to make the trip.
“Obviously there are electric vehicle enthusiasts who come to the show, and there are also people who come to inquire. Quebec, we are pioneers in the acquisition of electric vehicles, it is 50% of vehicles sold in Canada, it is in Quebec,” said Charles Douin, CEO and co-promoter of the Show.
A question of perhaps preparing their next purchase, visitors are expected at the ExpoCité Exhibition Center at the end of the week, where around fifty exhibitors are gathered until Sunday inclusive.
According to Charles Drouin, CEO of the Mobilis Corporation and co-promoter of the event, the Quebec Electric Vehicle Show is the perfect opportunity to see, try and analyze the latest technological innovations.
“This year, we have more than 25 cars tested,” he said.
With the soaring price of gas, the acquisition of an electric vehicle becomes very interesting. However, given the limited stocks, it is better to do it in advance, recognizes Mr. Drouin.
“The days when we went to the dealership and came out the same day with our vehicle, we forget that. You have to plan at least 5 to 6 months in advance,” he says, pointing out that some models on the market can go up to two years of waiting.
Last year, the event attracted over 9,000 visitors.
On Friday, Minister Jonatan Julien announced that the retail price limit to qualify for the Roulez Vert program will increase to $65,000.
To take advantage of the discount, the price of the electric or hybrid vehicle must be less than $60,000, but this criterion will soon be expanded.
“We’re working on that,” said Quebec’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
“We continue to support the purchase of electric vehicles through the Roulez Vert program. This means that Quebec is very well positioned throughout Canada. About 50% of vehicles sold in the country are in Quebec. We are in exponential growth,” said Mr. Julien.
Currently, there are nearly 140,000 electric or hybrid vehicles on the roads of Quebec. The goal is to reach 1.6 million by 2030.
“This choice, which we come to make, ensures that we will maintain the pace we have adopted. We are expanding the criteria for the vehicles to be there, ”he explained.
