Chinese netizens look like Elon Musk, questioned by AI, face-changing microblog and banned

One of the reasons why a Chinese internet celebrity “Ma Yilong” has recently become the subject of discussion among Chinese and American netizens is his resemblance to Tesla founder Elon Musk. Ma Yilong uploaded a video imitating Musk in English on Douyin, which attracted more than 500,000 followers. He even followed up on real-world issues in the video, such as imitating Musk and joking regarding acquiring Twitter and Coca-Cola.

Although Ma Yilong’s English is average, but following he gradually became known to Chinese and American netizens, some people combined his photo with Elon Musk and uploaded it to Twitter, and even asked Musk if he wanted to use him as a stand-in. As a result, Musk personally responded, saying that if Ma Yilong is real, he also intends to meet the other party, but the current Deepfake technology makes it difficult to distinguish between true and false.

Before the two had a chance to meet, Ma Yilong’s Weibo was officially banned for violating the community convention. His last Weibo responded to Elon Musk, saying, “I’m right here, I want to see you too, I love you, you are my hero.” Some Chinese netizens have been questioning Ma Yilong’s use of artificial intelligence face swapping technology, and some local media have also interviewed lawyers, pointing out that if the film uses face swapping, it may be suspected of infringing on others’ portrait rights, but Ma Yilong has yet to respond to the incident on any platform.
