China has given up the right to host the Asian Cup soccer tournament, which was scheduled to be held for one month from June 16 next year.
The Asian Football Federation (AFC) announced on its website today (14th) that “the Chinese Football Association (CFA) has received an official notice that the 2023 Asian Cup cannot be hosted.”
“We acknowledge the exceptional circumstances in which China has given up its hosting rights due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
China’s state-run news agency Xinhua also reported that the event’s venue would be changed from China to another location following the Chinese event organizer confirmed the announcement.
Earlier, China decided to postpone the Asian Games and Universiade, which were scheduled to be held in China this year, due to the spread of Corona 19 in Shanghai and Beijing.
