Sebta and Melilla land borders will officially reopen on May 17, 2022

The borders will reopen overnight from Monday to Tuesday May 17, the Spanish Embassy in Rabat said in a statement. The two cities will initially be accessible to citizens residing in the European Union and to people authorized to travel in the Schengen area.

From May 31, Moroccan workers will also be able to travel to the two cities, indicates the same source, stressing that a decree will formalize this decision.

“The reopening is the result of the bilateral work carried out with the Moroccan authorities within the framework of the roadmap agreed upon following the meeting between the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the King of Morocco, Mohammed IV, and which made it possible to establish the mechanisms that will govern the gradual, orderly reopening and with all the guarantees of safety and health of the border crossings between the two countries”, concludes the embassy
