Tourism: Towards a 100% occupancy rate in hotels in June

The occupancy rate of hotel units in the governorate of Mahdia would reach 100% during the month of June, estimated the regional commissioner of tourism in Mahdia, Mohamed Boujdaria.

According to the same source, the period between June 10 and 15, 2022 will see a peak in attendance, with the possibility of matching the figures recorded in 2019, the reference year when the region welcomed 260,000 tourists out of 9.4 million. travelers who have visited Tunisia.

The resumption of tourist activity in the region is attributable in particular to the repositioning of the destination of Mahdia with French, Italian and English travel agencies, following an absence due to the crisis linked to the coronavirus, underlined Boujdaria.

He said in this sense that the number of overnight stays will therefore increase with the influx of tourists from Western Europe known for bookings greater than or equal to one week.

In this context, the period between January 1 and April 30, 2022 recorded the arrival of 27,310 tourists in Mahdia. Thus, the number of tourists has improved by 184% and that of overnight stays by 292% (62,619 overnight stays) compared to the same period of 2021.

The resumption of tourist activity in the region has also manifested itself through the increase in direct and indirect flights, particularly at the airports of Ennfidha and Monastir.

According to official figures, the tourism sector in the governorate of Mahdia mobilizes investments worth more than 550 million dinars and annual income in foreign currency of more than 150 million dinars. 29 hotel units operate in the region and provide nearly 4,000 direct jobs.
