North Korea reports the first deaths from covid-19, a day after imposing a strict national confinement to try to stop infections

North Korea confirmed its first deaths from covid-19, while state media in that country reported that tens of thousands of people are having fever symptoms.

Six people died following suffering from fever and one of them tested positive for the omicron variant, state media reported during the early hours of this Friday (local time).

They said that some 187,000 people with fever are “isolated and under treatment”.

Although experts believe the virus has been present in the country for some time, it was not until Thursday that authorities reported the first infections.
