“Unfortunately, I took several breaks today, but it was a good match in itself,” explained Alexander Zverev following the game on the “Sky” microphone.
After just ten minutes, the favorite led 3-0.

Zverev attacks the ATP – that’s what Djokovic says

Zverev might mostly rely on his serve, which came out great and didn’t give De Minaur a chance to get a leg on the floor on the return. Only in the seventh game did Zverev open the door, which De Minaur used to break (2: 5).
However, this did not change the clear sentence success of the German. After 43 minutes, Zverev brought his game through to 6: 3 without any problems.
De Minaur defended himself better as a result, but mightn’t prevent Zverev from quickly (2: 1) having a break advantage in the second set. The Australian hit back this time though and was back mid set at 3-3. The game was – at least now – balanced.
De Minaur makes life difficult for Zverev
Zverev was pissed off by the drop in performance and threw his racket in frustration, which the audience in the Foro Italico acknowledged with whistles.
It got dramatic shortly before the end of the sentence: Zverev took the service from De Minaur to make it 6: 5, but immediately conceded the re-break.
Zverev: “Suddenly it’s 6: 6…”
The decision had to be made in the tie-break. Zverev initially dictated what happened, taking a 3-1 and 5-2 lead – before the Australian equalized once more with a series of three points.
Nevertheless, the Olympic champion converted his second match point following an hour and 50 minutes. “In the second set I had three extremely bad service games. Suddenly it’s 6: 6 and it can tip in both directions. I still have to work on that a bit,” said Zverev self-critically.
