Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Thursday expressed their support for their country’s entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
They said in a joint statement: that NATO membership will enhance the security of Finland. By joining NATO, Finland will increase the strength of the entire defensive alliance. Finland must apply to join NATO without delay.
The statement added that a special committee will announce Finland’s official decision on the issue of submitting its candidacy for NATO membership, on Sunday. The President and Prime Minister were expected to announce a positive attitude towards joining NATO.
Niinistö told reporters, on Wednesday, that joining NATO would not be once morest anyone, amid Russian warnings of the consequences of Helsinki’s pursuit of joining the Western military alliance. He stressed that his response to Russia would be “You caused it.”
