In Ukraine, a presenter comments on Eurovision from a bunker

This Tuesday evening was the first semi-final of Eurovision 2022. Ukraine, given the winner, has already qualified for the final this Saturday, May 14 in Turin. In Ukraine, despite the war, the music program is well broadcast and its usual Ukrainian presenter has decided to stay on the job… from a bunker.

According to BFM TV, Timur Myroshnychenko, at the helm of the presentation of the competition since 2007, is presenting it this year from an air-raid shelter converted into studios and controlled since the start of the war. “I’m 36 and I’ve been in Eurovision for 17 years. It represents around fifty shows, so really, it’s a part of me”explains the star presenter to our colleagues. “In our country, Eurovision is very popular, you know. After the first semi-final I received thousands of messages of thanks from viewers. What they told me was simple: thanks to you, we have the feeling of having regained the life of beforehe reports.

Despite precarious working conditions, the commentator seems to keep smiling, he explains that the red carpet under his feet dates from Eurovision 2017. “There was a bit left and we rolled it out because it’s quite cold”he says.
