The difference between Lee Myung-bak and former President Kim Dae-jung’s resignation speech
(Mayo Haneda: Business Writer in Korea)
On May 9, South Korean President Moon Jae-in delivered a resignation speech. In a 15-minute speech, he praised his policies for the past five years.
First of all, let me briefly introduce the contents of the speech. Herefollowing, he will be referred to as the former president.
1) Koreans have become one in the face of a series of national crises
2) When the constitutional order was disrupted by President Park Geun-hye and his acquaintances, we, the people, realized a change of government and re-established democracy through candle rallies.
3) Successful Pyeongchang Winter Olympics as a peaceful Olympics
4) Transforming the Korean Peninsula’s war crisis into a dialogue and diplomatic phase, fostering hope for a new Korean Peninsula era of peace and prosperity
5) Overcoming the crisis caused by Japan’s unjustified export restrictions with the united power of all the people
6) The Republic of Korea is a world-leading model nation for epidemic prevention. The grade of the new coronavirus has been lowered from 1st grade to 2nd grade, and it is now possible to live a life without a mask.
7) After World War II, it became the only nation that entered the developed world from developing countries.
8) The Republic of Korea is a “country of great people” that is recognized and envied by the world.
9) If we fill the gaps deepened in the elections, the Republic of Korea will move even stronger on the path of true success.
If you look at the content of the speech, you can easily understand why the former president was pointed out by the media in his own country as “self-proclaimed.”
