The severe drought affecting the western United States has caused the waters of Lake Mead, the largest man-made reservoir in the country, to recede, exposing bodies, one of which corresponds to a man murdered decades ago: his body, with a gunshot wound, he was inside a metal barrel.
A severe drought affects the United States and summer hasn’t even started in the northern hemisphere yet.
Currently, 53.8% of the 48 contiguous states of the country (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) are facing drought conditions, reported the EFE agency.
This situation hits the west coast more seriously, which, in turn, has brought forward the start of the forest fire season.
The Mead is the largest man-made lake and reservoir in the United States. Located between Nevada and Arizona, in the desert area, it has also been hit hard by the drought, with its reserves rapidly declining.
And with the receding water, long-standing underwater objects have been exposed…and dead bodies.
In just one weekhave already found two human bodies that were submerged in the depths of the lago Mead.
According to the American network ABC Newsthe second body was found on Saturday near Las Vegas and there are no signs that there is a third party in the death, although the causes of death are still being studied.
The first body, of a man, is the one that presents the greatest mystery, since it was found on May 1 inside a corroded metal barrel.
The skills to identify him continue, but for now they think he was shot to death between the 70s and 80s. The clothing -which he still wore- belonged to that period.
About, Geoff Schumacher, historian at the Mob Museum in Las Vegasconfirmed that they have arisen rumors that this homicide might be linked to the mafia.
In that sense, he told ABC News that this incident recalls a case from 1976, when the asphyxiated corpse of gangster John “Handsome Johnny” Roselli was discovered on a Miami beach -and inside a metal barrel-originario de Chigado.
The individual had disappeared a year earlier, following testifying in the Senate regarding an alleged plot to assassinate John F. Kennedy.
Since 1880 this method of homicide has been associated with the mafia, the specialist said.
Experts expect ancient carcasses to continue to appear as the lake dries up.
