The epidemiological situation continues to improve in Quebec

The interim director of public health for Quebec, Dr. Luc Boileau confirms that the health situation is improving across the province.

“The epidemiological situation is really going in the right direction. The tangent that was confirmed last week is still continuing, it’s very encouraging,” said Dr. Boileau. He clarified that deaths, hospitalizations and the number of absent healthcare workers are down.

Dr. Caroline Quash, full professor at the University of Montreal and president of the Committee on Immunization of Quebec, for her part confirmed that currently “there are more cases of influenza than of COVID-19”. “Given the epidemiological situation, it would therefore be preferable to wait until the fall to get a booster dose for the population. The objective is to have maximum protection at the right time”.

The second booster dose is still recommended for certain specific groups, such as residents of CHSLDs and RPAs, people over 80 and immunosuppressed clients.

On the other hand, the wearing of the mask will be lifted as planned on Saturday May 14 at midnight. It will remain required in public transport and hospitals.
